Bently Agrowdynamics featured in Carson Valley Conservation Exhibit

20 December 2001—The Carson Valley Historical Society is slated to unveil a new exhibit on 5 January 2002 showcasing the conservation efforts of various Carson Valley agricultural and conservancy organizations. Building on the theme Keeping the Valley Green, Bently Agrowdynamics™, Full Circle Compost, UNR’s agricultural extension office, and the American Land Conservancy have each contributed interpretive displays. The displays explain past, present, and future agricultural practices in the Valley along with the participants’ common vision for sustainable agricultural land usage that makes improved use of natural resources. The exhibit will run through the end of 2002.

Don Bently, well-known Carson Valley entrepreneur and owner of Bently Agrowdynamics™ explains that his company’s portion of the exhibit will be titled Reverence for the Past, Vision for the Future. It describes the various facets of his 38,000 acre agricultural business and how it is working to engage in what he calls "enlightened use of resources" to preserve the rural nature of the Carson Valley.

Bently, a proponent of sustainable agricultural practices that makes greater use of modern technology, has brought numerous advances to farming in the Valley. One of the most noteworthy is in the area of water conservation. The exhibit highlights his operation’s improvements by describing such efforts as the replacement of evaporation-prone open ditches with pressurized pipes, the use of highly efficient sprinkler systems instead of flood irrigation, and experimentation with sub-surface irrigation which promises to eliminate nearly all conveyance and evaporative water loss. The exhibit also covers numerous other practices employed by Agrowdynamics that are designed to promote environmentally friendly approaches to farming. These include large-scale soil preservation and remediation projects, composting and biomass recycling, substantial flood-plain improvement projects, the rebuilding of the Mud Lake Reservoir dam, and others.

A free brochure has been produced covering the topics in Bently’s portion of the exhibit. The brochure will be available beginning January 5th at the exhibit, on Bently Agrowdynamics’ Web site (www.bentlyagrowdynamics.com/brochure.php), or via mail by calling 782-1846.
